Babyproofing Guidelines
Phase I: Crawling babies (6 months+)
Install outlet and power strip covers
Install baby gates to keep babies out of areas that are not completely baby-safe (kitchens, staircases, basements, etc)
Install cabinet and drawer locks on cabinets with any dangerous chemicals or objects
Prevent drowning by installing safety fences, locks, or other devices on any pools
Approximately 800 children die every year from drowning. There is no way to 100% baby-proof a pool.
Phase II: Cruising and pulling up (9 months+)
Prevent messes and contamination of those little hands by installing a toilet lock
You can also keep the bathroom door closed and locked from the outside with a hook and eye latch out of reach
Keep bath time safe
Prevent burns by keeping bath water around 100 degrees (a little warmer than your body temperature)
Prevent falls by adding a non-slip bath mat to the tub
Remove or tie up any cords for window blinds or drapes
Lock your windows
Secure all heavy furniture to the wall with anti-tip anchors or L-brackets
Phase III: Walkers (11 months+)
Add doorknob covers and locks
Install baby gates in front of fireplaces
